I hope to cover and showcase some of the interesting topics, discussions, content and guides that have been going on over the last week in the gold making community. Some that you might have missed as a veteran gold maker, or you might be interested in checking out for the first time as a new or aspiring ‘goblin’.
The format will not be that of a traditional guide, but links to further reading with commentary and opinions of my own. I will be looking at the bigger picture, the decision making and thought processes in being a gold maker – rather than a step by step instructional list. As the saying goes, “give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime”.

The Feb 20 hotfix nerfed
(BoS) missions (by increasing the cost) such that if your goal was trading them in for Order Resources (OR), the net gain was reduced from 600 OR to 0.
This made lots of goblins sad, some to the point that they considered giving up on their order hall mission farm. But I'm far from reaching that point, and you should be too!
Is it still worth it?
Yes, absolutely yes
. Some of the methodology around sustaining order halls has changed, but it's still an amazing and largely passive gold farm. Completing Argus and getting to ilvl 950 as quickly as possible on each alt is still the way to go. Meatball is still very much worth the (little) effort it takes to get him, IMO.
How to sustain your Order Resources (OR)
. Complete as many BoS missions as possible on Druids, using
only. This hotfix indirectly buffed Broll by making his discount increase from 540 OR to 720 OR for ilvl 950 BoS missions.
. Complete as many free WQs as possible every day. This upgrade exists for DH, DK, Mage, Paladin, Warlock, and Warrior. It's even more important now to always target the highest OR/BoS mission to sustain your alt army.
. Sustain Argus troops with "hearts". These items are generated by a specific champion for DH, Druid, Mage, Priest, Shaman, and Warlock.
. Complete WQs everyday on a character with a fully-loaded bodyguard, and use BoS missions to transfer to alts. I do this on my main (Hunter) with +400 OR and they stack up quick.
enchants. Put this on every alt. Note that it has a 1h internal cooldown, so if you get a drop on an alt, finish up what you're doing and switch to another char. (You can get multiple drops if you AoE a ton of mobs then loot, however.)
. 15k OR for reasonably little play time.
. High OR/BoS WQs. I look for 1k+ OR (or 5+ BoS), near a Flight Path/Beacon, and Wardens-type single kill; or Dalaran profession quests. Repeat on multiple chars. Note that Wowhead has a dynamic WQ list on their website. Much easier for checking profession-specific WQs.
. WQ bonus week. Complete
for 5k OR.
To give you an idea of the big picture, here are the classes I have:
1 Hunter (main, sustained through WQs)
3 Druids (sustained through Broll's ability)
14 free WQ classes (sustained through free WQs, obvs)
4 other classes (sustained through my main)
Total sustainers: 18
Total leeches: 4
I intentionally created multiple DHs, Druids, Mages and Warlocks as they have the best abilities for mission gold-farming and OR-sustaining. This has turned out to be an even bigger boon post-hotfix.
Can you still use missions to farm things other than gold on alts?
Yes! I would just recommend being more cost-sensitive than ever. Here are the cheapest missions:
Artifact Power 12h only - 100 OR (Why the cheapest is 12h and not 14-18h, I don't know.)
Champion Equipment all missions - 100 OR
Pet Charms all missions - 150 OR
Reputation tokens 18h only - 100 OR
Veiled Argunite 24h only - 200 OR
I'm not actually sure the costs on Primal Sargerite (since I never do them), but I assume the longer missions cost less OR.
Alt army gold mission farming is not dead.
Class choice is more important when leveling/boosting an alt for this method of gold farming.
You don't need to spend hours farming OR.
I actually do more WQs on my main now.
If you're new to this and just setting up your alt army, you may need to farm significant OR/BoS to get started, after which it will be largely sustainable.
Time is slowly starting to tick away regarding setting up and making the most of the Order Halls. The
change does indicate that the developers are keeping an eye on the impact of the Order Halls and how much gold is generated - being one of the few ways to generate raw gold. I will expect the removal of the gold aspect to the missions towards the end of the expansion, similar to the changes made in the Draenor Garrisons.
As said, it's not too late to get yours setup. It can serve as a great means to generate enough gold per month for a WoW Token, or build up some starting capital for your other gold making strategies.

All the blood nerf did was make it zero sum. It's still stupidly powerful when you consider what its original use was in the first place:
To make it so you basically had a pool of OR to share amongst all of your alts via caches
You're just not getting anything extra anymore for doing it. Everyone acted like the sky was falling and this is somehow the death of the alt gold farm when in reality if you were doing it the entire time you're fine because you should be swimming in bloods to begin with. Was the reasoning by the devs kinda lame? Of course it was but it's whatever. This hasn't stopped my passive gold generation in the slightest.
For me I have a ton of caches stockpiled so I basically just look for gold missions and it has considerably cut the amount of time I spend each day going through my army of alts.
How many Order Halls are you running? How much gold do you generate per week from each character? Have you considered starting to work on yours before the launch of Battle for Azeroth?

After “100 hours of Skinning” in Legion I made a total of 2,162,000g, (1,556
not included. I will use them for Blacksmithing to craft
. It will net 500-800g per blood. If i’d sell the 1.556 Blood for 122 Gold per piece there would be a profit of 2,350,000 Gold after the 100 hours. That's 23,500g per hour.
Thoughts after 100 hours
The challenge motivated me to get to the 100 hours. At first I thought 100 hours wouldn’t be that long – but they added up. With 23,500g per Hour i’m pretty satisfied. The only thing disappointing me was the fact, that I only found one BoE Item every 10 hours. Also, prices for Scales and Leather were dropping throughout the challenge. When I started, Stormscale was worth 5g/piece, at the end I sold them for 3g/piece.
The challenge took place on Outland, EUs biggest Server. The size of the server made it easy, to sell all the 300,000 leather/scales. If you’re playing on a smaller server, it may be difficult to sell 10,000 leather every day because there are not that much customers!
Gathering professions are still solid, despite how late it is in the expansion - they will remain an excellent choice at the launch of Battle for Azeroth so if you're thinking about picking up a profession then Skinning or Herbalism will never really be a 'bad' choice. It's another good way to build some initial capital if you're just starting

Goblin theorycrafter and gold-maker
has published a video discussing the general value of gold and comparing purchasing power between servers and game regions.
The premise of the video is that gold is 'worth' more or less on different servers, depending on what you can acquire for a similar amount of gold. Comparisons are also drawn between the two regions of US and EU where the WoW Token will give or can be acquired for different amounts of gold.
The reason this is important, as Breg explains, is the fact you can transfer caged battle pets between servers and buy and/or sell in any kind of server. When you're buying for a low price on a higher population server (where prices are a generally lower for items, i.e players have more purchasing power) and then selling for a higher price on a lower population server (with generally higher prices, and less purchasing power), each server is still referencing the value of gold to a WoW Token despite the disparity in 'values' of items.
At a higher level, I often see new goblins and gold-makers asking questions about starting out with gold making on lower population servers and saying 'My server is dead! I can never sell anything' - I don't believe there is such thing as a bad server to make gold on. What you do to make gold will naturally depend on your server, you will adjust discussed strategies and methods to account for the 'purchasing power' of the market in your server. I wouldn't recommend transferring yourself to a higher population if you haven't already figured out the basics and fundamentals of gold-making - unless you're transferring for other primary reasons such as to play with friends or raiding opportunities etc. If you're starting out with gold-making on a low population server and aren't making any revenue, it's not going to be any different on a high population server in general. I'd only move if you feel like you've exhausted your opportunities and you've run out of room to continue growing as a goblin, this could take many months if not years as a new starter.
WoW Token Three Year Anniversary
Speaking of the WoW Token, this past week saw the three year anniversary of the WoW Token.
So what has changed since then? I believe gold-making has become a lot more interesting since the launch of the WoW Token - there is much more incentive to participate in gold-making now, including paying for your WoW gametime. Shortly after the initial launch of the Token Blizzard introduced the ability to convert your WoW gold in to Battle.net Balance which in turn meant you could purchase Blizzard titles such as Overwatch or in-game goodies such as store mounts or Hearthstone card packs with the gold that you make in WoW.
On the flip side, the value of the WoW Token also means that new players, or those without time and interest to make their own gold can inject their gameplay with a boost in gold buy purchasing a Token with real world money and be on their merry way.

As we all know, gold is the universal currency of World of Warcraft. Players can currently buy:
Bind on Equip Gear
PvE Raid Carries / Gear from Gold DKP Runs
Arena / Rated Battle Ground Carries
Challenge Mode Carries
Augment Runes, Enchants, Gems, Repairs and more
No, it doesn't buy players skill. But who needs skill if you can just get carried? Many players argue that winning the game is defeating the boss of the current tier. Not every player may have that definition of what "winning" is in a game, though. Perhaps just getting an upgrade to your current gear, or getting specific achievements, is satisfying enough for some players to label it "winning".
It's also worth noting that, in the Venturebeat Article, Ion Hazzikostas clarified that they would be "looking at" the Black Market Auction House and what was sold on it. While this only addresses one of our list of gold items above, it is a step in the right direction.
The answer to this pay to win question is subjective. It entirely depends on your definition of "winning". If you think you've won when you have better gear than the player next to you, then perhaps. If you think you've won only when you've cleared the current tier on Mythic difficulty, then, especially with the aforementioned reassessment of BoE items, it's less likely to be an issue.
Interestingly, the only change to the Black Market Auction House was the increase in the amount a player can bid - however this may have simply been because of the player gold cap being increased, rather than a specific change on the Black Market Auction House. It's quite common to see certain items like the unobtainable

or some of the rarer vanilla tier 3 set pieces go for the current player gold cap of 9,999,999g. But was that kind of gold generated by purchasing a WoW Token? Or is it that much easier to make gold in the game as it exists today.
Looking at the value of the WoW Token since launch certainly indicates that players are able to acquire more and more gold each month in order to pay for their Tokens to cover their WoW game time, but what kind of limits will players put up with? There are several instances of price-spikes during holiday discounts and expansion/game announcements, but how much is too much?

The price of the Token will always generally trend up, whenever the price spikes it will usually settle a little lower than it's new highest point. There's not really any reason for the value of the Token to ever go down, unless Blizzard implements some changes - which would be very difficult given the general inflation of the value of gold up to the present day.
How much do you value gold? Do you still reference prices from different expansions and compare? Do you buy Tokens with real world money, what do you do with the gold? How long have you been buying Tokens with WoW gold and what do you do with them?

. So prices have been slowly rising since Legion hit as supply is drying up pretty fast.

, the materials are still actively used, the farms have been nerfed and on top of that value of gold has changed. There are no good Spirit of Harmony farms left but they are still very sought after due to Living Steel crafts.
Ghost Iron Ore is used for the same purpose and other things on top, so the price being good is because it's an actively desired ore for Pandaria related crafts. On my realms,
is actually better gold/hour than Legion ore/herbs are.
I'd also consider that the discontinued support of the popular Terms of Service breaking tools at the end of last year may now also be having a much more significant impact on these previous expansion materials. It's mostly a simply case of Supply and Demand. There is simply not enough people out there collecting the materials to keep up with what is required by crafters to produce their goods.
Personally, I can never get enough
. If I wanted to craft everything with Leatherworking that required Exotic Leather and Magnificent hides, I'd need over 11,000 Exotic Leather. There's just never that much available on my Auction House, and prices are continuing to rise.

I love when AH numbers are out of alignment as it’s always a great opportunity for gold making.
This week on my server(Low pop) I saw 3 things on my AH searches, packed up my miner and headed to Old Dalaran.

have sold at up to 100 gold per unit!!!! I was Farming in Wintergrasp where I always stop to clear the
dropping mobs in the SE corner.
I combined for fist 10 into an
when TSM told me they are selling for an average of 700 gold on my server! Needless to say I bought a boat load of
at 75g a piece and now have them listed at 700g each. My server only sells 15 a day but even that is 9300 free gold for literally 30 secs work. I also find other corrections like the price relationship between Motes and Primals, Crystalized and Eternals, Motes and Spirits of harmony.
I think this also cements the idea of diversification which is something repeated on this blog frequently. Even if you're farming, diversification is key, you don't want to invest all of your time in to one particular market - if you're collecting one kind of item exclusively you're going to suffer if that particular item value drops because of a sudden lack of demand or over-supply on your server. Considering previous expansion materials for farming and/or your own crafting purposes is going to set you apart from competition so that you're not relying on the price of one item to 'go back up' to make farming worth your time.
