Welcome to the thirty-first edition of the WoW Economy Weekly Wrap-up! In this edition we're reviewing the recent Developer Q&A, speculating on WoW Token prices, collecting data on Class Order Hall gold-making, confirming ultra-rare transmog is still available and announcing a Community Giveaway!

I hope to cover and showcase some of the interesting topics, discussions, content and guides that have been going on over the last week in the gold making community. Some that you might have missed as a veteran gold maker, or you might be interested in checking out for the first time as a new or aspiring ‘goblin’.
The format will not be that of a traditional guide, but links to further reading with commentary and opinions of my own. I will be looking at the bigger picture, the decision making and thought processes in being a gold maker – rather than a step by step instructional list. As the saying goes, “give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime”.

Normally these Q&As are dedicated to wider expansion systems and features, and the goblin/gold-making questions are saved for the Profession specific Q&A by lead designer Paul Kubit (which hasn't been announced yet, I hope they do soon!). However, Ion confirmed a couple of things we already knew regarding the design teams philosophies surrounding professions and shared some insight on
recently data-mined followers in the Alpha
The first question we'll take a look at was posed by Wowhead's very own site director Perculia, who asked
"There is a mission table in Zuldazar on the alpha, as well as datamined followers. What is the general role of the mission system in BFA and are there any notable differences from Legion?"
Ion started by confirming there will be a mission system, but they will be taking another step back from where they downsized from Draenor > Legion in terms of scale. Instead of them being tied to the Class Order Hall, they'll be integrated in to the War campaign of Battle of Azeroth and while there will be some tweaks to the system there are no "gigantic" changes planned. They're happy with where the Class Order Halls ended up, being a compliment to the content players want to do rather than overshadowing it.

with some great points regarding player psychology from /u/francismcd
They need to have a system to replace the Order Halls. They may take more time to get set up, they may not be as lucrative as Order Halls or they may need daily game play to keep them up and running with resources.
But they need to have something. The passive systems keep people subscribed. Don't have time play more than a few minutes after a long day? You can at least login and check your order halls and feel like you are still connected to the game. If you're on the road, a new version of the Legion app keeps you connected even if you can't login on your PC.
They want to keep people subscribed by having them get a little hit of WoW each day and these systems keep that going.
With that said, I think it's going to be interesting to see how the developers handle the gold-making aspect of the mission system. In a lot of situations it is the
way some players are able to acquire gold. They don't have the time or knowledge to go much further than a monthly crafted legendary or complete a few missions in their Class Order Hall that reward gold. With the rate of inflation it's also going to leave some players feeling left behind or unable to participate in things because they simply can't afford it.
The second question was asked by Tiamats
"Can you give us some insight into if the crafting system is going to change and if so how? i.e getting rid of how you obtain recipes or multiple ranks etc.
What we did know already is that professions are getting separated in to different expansion skill "buckets", which Ion confirms first. It didn't make much sense to have to level a profession skill all the way through previous expansions to be able to start current content, and with the catch-up mechanics introduced in Draenor and Legion the skill points themselves didn't really affect anything anyway. Now however, the baseline version of the tradeskill is immediately accessible and Outland Blacksmithing or Northrend Blacksmithing are separated out for you to opt-in to if you want to. In Battle for Azeroth, if you're a brand new Blacksmith you can immediately start crafting Zandalri or Kul'Tiran weapons and armour without having to level up your skill points from those previous expansions.
It does seem that obtaining the previous expansion aspects of a profession will be a simple case of talking to a trainer/vendor. I think it would have been cool to do a small quest-line to introduce someone to those expansion crafts and unlock the skill points if they are a newer player, with an achievement of some kind if you already had the skills in those expansion professions.
A funny quote from Ion regarding scaling game systems:
"Who expects to be making a game for 15 years? That's insanity! No one back then, when making Burning Crusade Leatherworking, I'm confident, asked the question or thought 'I wonder what this will look like when we're making our 8th expansion?', so we're asking those questions now"
Sadly there was no discussion on recipe ranks, but hopefully that will be covered by the yet-to-be-announced Profession Q&A.
The final question we'll look at was submitted by Lonrem, who asks:
"Will we see any attempt to make crafted gear on par with raid gear? Raid drop only mats?"
While Ion said there were no specific designs or plans to announce regarding this at the moment, the developers definitely want to try and keep crafted gear relevant to players. Different approaches to this have been tried, including the Legion
system. In the past, some raid materials were utilised for personal use where crafted gear was Bind on Pickup. The developers moved away from this kind of system because they don't want professions to have that much of a impact on personal player power, where professions were picked for a buff in damage instead of choice of tradeskill. Ion went on to say that there is a cool fantasy of killing a dragon, skinning its hide and then making something out of it but it's just a case implementing that kind of fantasy in to the reality of the game today.
The /r/wow subreddit had a
suggestion regarding crafting an item that was enhanced or upgraded after killing bosses
/u/RainbowDash971 pointed out some shortfalls that I agree with
we had craftable raidgear before. it always comes with the same problems - it has to be kinda time-gated so you don't craft shit for your entire raid in a couple weeks- progression through a dungeon comes with gearing up through them as part of it. there's no satisfaction in clearing a raid if you didn't "work for it" before. and since you're suggesting they're only going to give you x amount of craftable recources per run you're basically deciding as a guild who gets to have his crusader orbs or whatever it was the next 5 IDs which sucks for everyone who's not the maintank or a healer because they're all the way down in the priority list.
i'd like the transmog idea though. not so much for current content raiding more of transmoggers to be able to farm sets in a reasonable amount of time after the fact. i was running ToC soooo often and i still don't have that DK belt.
The balance of keeping crafted gear relevant but not to the point of being favoured over current content items is a delicate game in itself. As /u/RainbowDash971 said - it defeats the entire point of running a raid if you can already craft yourself all the gear you'd need in order to finish the raid. With that said, some ideas I've had regarding crafted profession gear is further iterations on the bonuses that have been added to items or item sets in Legion. For example, the crafted legendaries have been excellent additions. The bonus you get from them are niche in the way that they don't overshadow other gear but are still useful in lots of situations. Some of the dungeon sets that were added in Legion, such as
, could be moved to a profession-based acquisition - you have a very specific and niche problem or challenge and you'd approach someone with a tradeskill to help you overcome it.
In the Alpha build rolled out before the Q&A discussed above, there were some more profession and recipe updates. Mostly item allocations and name confirmations but the most interesting addition is a new Bind on Pickup reagent
- it has only been assigned to some Alchemy related crafts thus far, but it is categorised as an '
Elemental Trade Good
', just like
so it could well be the new BoP crafting material for Battle for Azeroth. We'll have to see if this is added to another crafts from other professions or if it's exclusive to Alchemy.

Speculation was rife this week around future updates to the Call of Duty Franchise being added to the Battle.net infrastructure. The
news broke via Eurogamer.net
that you could log in to a Call of Duty account using your Battle.net credentials. This follows the last Activision published title to be added when
Destiny 2 was introduced to the Battle.net ecosystem in May of 2017
So why is this important to gold-makers in World of Warcraft? Well, you'd be able to purchase the next Call of Duty game with your Blizzard balance just like you can with any other game available on the Blizzard store. This will naturally affect the price of WoW Tokens when pre-purchases and the game is further made available. The Call of Duty franchise also utilises 'loot boxes' like Overwatch, so there will be even more demand for gold conversion in to Battle.net balance.
/u/RodrigoBlasi doesn't think there will be too much of a dramatic spike like we have seen in the past

Since November 2017 US tokens are holding between 170k and 190k, which is very stable considering the historical prices where we see prices rising aggressively.
Also in November 2017 was when the infamous
bot announced its closure
. the botters have had a high impact since then, which helped stabilize the price of tokens. I know botters still exist and I believe they will never end. And botters greatly influence the prices of everything.
In the announcement of BFA we had a spike, but the price of the token stabilized a week after that in 180k.
I think that from now on, there will be spikes in each announcement, but prices should not double or triple as in other situations, perhaps increases of 10% or a little more than that

Prices have remained pretty stable since initial speculation was circulated, but lots of goblins and gold-makers are stocking up to max-out their Battle.net balance before anything changes,
which /u/SansJacket says is a self-fulfilling prophecy
With this news, this isn't a possibility, its an inevitability. Last time someone made a similar announcement on this sub token prices spiked purely from all the goblins buying tokens in anticipation of a spike.
Another key point to consider is the timing of the release,
which /u/svorkas brings attention to
People, please note that CoD releases are always in November bar a few exceptions. This will be well after the initial months of BFA which will bring a new surge of players and money into the game.

Lots of goblins have been sharing their Class Order Hall revenues this week, it's always good to see some data collection and distribution - it helps people understand what to expect and make sure everything is going to plan.
Firstly, one week of data was shared by /u/SansJacket:
Just thought I'd add this for those who are still wondering whether it is worth setting up order halls on their alts.
At the time of noting these numbers, I had;
4 Order Halls with maxed (950) followers
4 Order Halls with 925 followers on their way to max
The results were:
This equals 969,510g a month, which is 5.3 tokens at 180k a token (US), or $85 of Bnet balance a month.
Obviously the regularity of gold missions is RNG based, there was one 24 hour period where 2 of my 950 followers had 0 gold missions. Outside of that anomaly, I averaged 1-3 missions per day, per follower.
So all in all, I would say if you haven't already set up your order halls, do it! Even 2 maxed order halls is enough to buy a US token a month with change, I am stockpiling to upgrade my 2nd account to BFA for multibox levelling, and haven't paid for a month of game time since September.
Next up, two weeks of data from 7 characters was shared by /u/olioli86
So I've seen a few gold posts regarding order halls, so figured I'd throw in some stats of my own. The below are from 28/2 till today. Probably posting about 5 hours earlier than the original stats, but essentially this is 2 weeks worth. All gold is from pure gold quests, not primals/bloods and selling.
The first two chars have been working from 925 to 950 and are now there, though haven't handed in the 950 quest. They have maybe 1 or 2 followers at legendary, but mostly have elites (i.e 2 equipment slots unlocked). All others have all 3 slot followers, followers are maxed out with 30,40,50 success. (I maybe should drop the 30 success for duration). All including first two have meatball.
I login at least once every six hours except through the night, but that isn't much over that.
Two week Character average:
Therefore the average for a char with finished quests and max followers is about 84,750g over 2 weeks. That means about 6,000g a day (this tallies really at an average of 2-3 quests). This would mean in 30 days a maxed order hall gains you 180,000g. So in US one char can pay your subscription. EU you are looking about two. That's great gold in my opinion. It's worth noting the noticeable variety though. The death knight only averaged 4,867g a day or 146k a month. Please note that I'm not suggesting that this is due to the class choice, I'd imagine it's just luck.
Regarding drawing conclusions about missions for those that aren't complete. I feel that for most of this time I managed to 200% all gold missions offered, so I don't think it's unreasonable to assert that finishing all quests does actually help in terms of gold you earn (though this may be dependent on leveling up the followers etc).
Lastly, a whopping two months of data in a fancy spreadsheet was shared by /u/ckernan2
This shows my log of gold going back to the beginning of the year. Just go to the gold tab. I technically started in November when I returned to the game with 500,000g I left myself after giving away 8,000,000 as an incentive to not come back. That didn't last. I came back with the goal of doing all the mage tower challenges and making buckets of gold. I created a tracker to assist.
Feel free to look and use the other trackers. The gear tracker is outdated - as I've found the challenges doable, I quit tracking my gear. Followers the same - they're not all that bad as seen on the sheet. Gold is up to date as of today. I've extrapolated my gold making thus far and assume I'll be over 15m by the end of the xpac if it terminates in July (pre-patch assumption).
To use this as your own tracker, just make a copy of the spreadsheet and overwrite things. Don't mess with the inputs tab - it creates lots of drop down menus and formulas.
Sharken808 put out an update this week regarding some incredibly rare transmog confirmed to be available.
Since 7.3.5 we have seen many minor changes to loot tables. such as Scholomance, Strat and SM being the most popular.
A Pendulum of Doom has dropped from Uldaman. this is a confirmed drop after 7.3.5 due to the item being item level 66 which is the current vanilla item level of any blue.
The seller had this item up on illidan US selling it for 4m. a viewer of mine ended up buying it for around 1m Gold and flipped it for a huge profit within an hour.
The player said it dropped off a
Muskelprotz der Steingrufttroggs
and this is the Old Classic vanilla loot table for that mob
With the pendulum drop we cannot confirm that the others DO drop but it is a high possibility if one were to drop so would the others.
With these items dropping of course we will see an increase in the number of items and maybe a decrease in the price. how much, no one knows but if i had to take a guess it would be a lower drop chance than old papal fez. so i think it will retain most of its value. lucky to see one in 10,000 runs kind of thing.
With this knowledge we will see an increase of people running uldaman and it would feel a bit better knowing for sure that these items can possibly drop at any time. I know alot of people who speed run this dungeon so i would advise slowing down and ensuring most, if not all mobs are killed to ensure the highest possible chance to obtain one of these items.
