To be honest, I quite like that decision. There's only so much you can do to have different set bonuses feel fresh and be competitive at the same time. At this point, it really just tends to feel quite bleh, forces class balance to revolve around it (which is wank for those not raiding often / at all, and I see their side as well) and it causes very silly decisions. Some things in the whole 2P + 4P spectrum were so ridiculous it isn't even funny, like a WW monk actually needing absurd ilvl averages in the +50 or even +60 range for even optimally rolled off pieces to replace T19. Even if we are to get rid of the 6 pieces since no legendaries exist, we still have the "you need this set. Pieces that do not suck are these 4, so wear those", and the number of bonus options is just becoming quite stale. "Ability X does more damage" or "casting Z gives you a stacking % to stat" or simple CDR or CD power improvements are basically what it's been coming down to as of late. Let's see what the azerite pieces will look like - in theory, at least, you can have choice between pieces and the traits in each to boot, which can create a lot of interesting choices and synergies.
@Ion: As sonmone once said "aw helllllnaaahhh"
I'll add, "I want a Tier 23-25 ..and a liter of cola". Why would you even raid if you couldn't get a tier piece set.
Killing raiding one expansion at a time. "Hey, we've had this good system of tier sets for the last 13 years, how about we get rid of it."Let's not kid ourselves, a lot o people were raiding only to get gear. Without tier pieces all those people will switch to m+ and not look back. Also once there is no incentive to make distinct sets for each class we get homogenized dull instance themed sets like ToV.
Yes. Tier is old news. Tired of having a bank full of item level upgrades I cant use.
Wait, so is this saying there's no tier set bonuses or no tier set bonuses and no class themed raid sets. I'm all for bonuses going bye bye, but don't drop class identity with no more raid sets. BfA might be bad for transmog collectors if this is the case.
This isn't good at all. What is there to work towards now? Atleast sets gave you a feeling of getting great bonuses for getting them. All this is doing, is tying in AP 2.0 into power progression yet again. BfA is shaping up to be WoD 2.0.
I've been locked into a 880 nighthold tier piece until yesterday because the two item bonus was better than what I had. Finally broke it with an greater invasion drop off a 930 item. Nice 4 point I level increase.Honestly though they're only moving the set bonus to the azurite interface and your going to unlock tiers based on game play and the three items you have.
I've often wished you could kinda peel the tier-set bonus off one set of gear and stick it onto another, carry with you the bonus you like the best. I guess the bonus effects or whatever the Azerite gear will have is going to be a kind of middle ground between the current system and this idea. That tier sets are going away... that change makes me a little anxious, but then most change does.
It's like taking a chainsaw to a knife fight -- overkill. There are way simpler solutions to the issue, such as going back to five tier pieces dropping or making it so the bonuses from only one tier set at a time can be active.
I don't think the added dps/hps/ survivability provided by the set bonuses is a problem here, because that will be offset by both other gear and encounter tuning. There is, however, one thing that is not pure numbers that was sometimes provided by the sets, and that is subtle changes to the rotation which sometimes made it more interesting (and sometimes made it unfortunately duller). I hope they keep that feature somehow.
Really sad to see this. These rather small bonuses are changing gameplay for some classes/specs. I hope there will be those minor bonuses, that somewhat change your playstyle. I really love getting tier set which makes one of my talents / builds viable/competitive. I really hope the game won't get any more simple and every spec will be one talent path. Hopefully they'll create diversity in playstyles somehow.
Get rid of Tier and bonuses....actually give drops better stats for ur spec
This seems like a way to allow them to make only 4 different sets for each tier instead of 12, and excuse it with "sets don't have bonuses anyway" and "making a set for each class is resource-heavy".
