Leatherworking is a vital Profession within a healthy market, as many classes will be seeking out some of the finest armor pieces a Leatherworker can craft. Warriors, Rogues, Druids, Hunters, Shaman, and Paladins can all benefit from Leatherworking services when gearing up for raid encounters. For this reason, a Leatherworker can make quite a handsome sum of gold.
At level 40 and 225 skill, a Leatherworker may choose to specialize in either Dragonscale, Elemental, or Tribal Leatherworking, allowing access to special recipes in that discipline. Dragonscale Leatherworking specializes in crafting Mail armor with spell resistances, Elemental Leatherworkers can craft Leather with spell resistances, as well as some fun and unique items, and Tribal Leatherworkers can craft some Pre-Raid Best in Slot Leather items for many Classes. Each has their own unique patterns and benefits, which leave many players indecisive. Luckily, Wowhead has a Guide for that!
Classic WoW Profession Guides
Our Classic WoW Profession Guides explain the most efficient ways of leveling each Profession, where the Trainers are located, as well as some of the best recipes for that Profession and where to find them! If you're interested in Leatherworking or plan to roll Leatherworking, our guide can help you level Leatherworking without wasting any time farming the wrong materials or spending time crafting recipes that aren't efficient for leveling!

Dragonscale Leatherworkers can craft many great Pre-Raid Best in Slot items for a Restoration Shaman going into Molten Core. Any extra Fire Resistance can be crucial during difficult fights and even trash mobs in some cases.
Drachenschuppenbrustplatte
or
Rote Drachenschuppenbrustplatte
being two primary examples. Dragonscale also offers some great armor pieces for Enhancement Shaman, as they get geared up preparing to Raid. Items such as
Schwarze Drachenschuppenschultern
,
Schwarze Drachenschuppenbrustplatte
,
Chromatische Stulpen
, and
Schwarze Drachenschuppenstiefel
, which have a significant amount of Attack Power on them and can lead to some Hit Chance, if you get the set bonus. Unfortunately, this specialization for Leatherworking isn't quite as popular as others, as many recipes within Dragonscale Leatherworking aren't in high demand after Phase 2.

Elementarlederverarbeitung
Similar to Dragonscale, Elemental Leatherworking just isn't quite popular. Mostly because the patterns available to the specialization only apply to a few specific Classes, and are really only useful for a small amount of time. The fire resistance is always welcome, when preparing for Molten Core, but after that it just isn't really needed. The items that feature resistances other than Fire don't have much of an impact for anyone other than a Feral Tank Druid. While Tanking in Classic WoW, stacking extra spell resistances can be a great way to mitigate incoming damage, so Tanks should always look for items with resistances. Elemental Leatherworking also has access to some great leveling items that are both useful and can be pretty fun, when used properly. Both
Stulpen des Meeres
and
Helm des Feuers
are really great items to use while leveling, as well as offering some unique utility not necessarily available to a Rogue,
Helm des Feuers
can be a great tool to use for killing an escaping mob or even to tag a mob before another player does.

Tribal Leatherworking is without a doubt, the most popular Leatherworking specialization, and it isn't that difficult to understand why.
Teufelssaurierstulpen
and
Teufelssauriergamaschen
are Pre-Raid Best in Slot items for DPS Fury Warriors, Rogues, Hunters, Enhancement Shamans, and Retribution Paladins. With the set bonus from
Teufelsaurierrüstung
, you get 2% Hit Chance, which is remarkable for a fresh level 60, that hasn't stepped foot into a raid yet.
Balg der Wildnis
is a Best in Slot item for Restoration Druids, Restoration Shaman, Holy Priests, and Holy Paladins, because of how much raw bonus healing it has. And on top of all that, Tribal Leatherworkers can craft
Wolfskopfhelm
, which is hands down the Best in Slot item for Feral Druids,
forever
, even after Naxxramas. Wolfshead Helm is so good because of something known as "Power Shifting" which is when a Druid shapeshifts out of a Form and back into it, just to gain more Energy or Rage, which is an extremely effective strategy for maintaining high damage output.

Which specialization is best?
There isn't much of a choice when deciding which specialization is best, it's clearly
Tribal Leatherworking
. Unfortunately for the other Leatherworking specializations, spell resistances, which is a primary focus of both Dragonscale and Elemental, isn't actually that important for damage dealing classes, and even for Tanks, and even Warrior and Paladin Tanks will prioritize Blacksmithing gear, so only Feral Druids would benefit, but only wearing leather restricts Dragonscale Leatherworking.
Because Tribal Leatherworking has the ability to create so many great items such as
Teufelssaurierstulpen
,
Teufelssauriergamaschen
,
Balg der Wildnis
, and
Wolfskopfhelm
, it's pretty obvious Tribal is the way to go. Rest assured, there will always be someone on the realm looking for one of these items to be crafted!
